Jeff E. Harris received his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology in 1990 from The Ohio State University. He received his ABPP certification as a Specialist in Counseling Psychology in 2004. Dr. Harris worked as a psychologist at university counseling centers in Illinois and Hawaii from 1990 to 2008. Based on his outreach work on college campuses, he co-authored Workshops: Designing and Facilitating Experiential Learning (Brooks-Harris & Stock-Ward, 1999). From 2008 to 2018, he worked as an Associate Professor, teaching Counseling Psychology at Texas Woman’s University. From 2018 to 2022, Dr. Harris served as the Director of Counseling at New Mexico State University. He currently works for the Indian Health Service at the Behavioral Health Clinic on the Mescalero Apache Reservation in New Mexico.
Psychotherapy integration has been the focus of Dr. Harris’ scholarship for over two decades. He published a skills-based approach to integration in the book, Integrative Multitheoretical Psychotherapy (Brooks-Harris, 2008). Since 2015, Dr. Harris has worked with other integrative scholars to define Unified Psychotherapy as a comprehensive framework for practice. Since 2022, Dr. Harris has been designing and implementing an online training program called Training in Unified Psychotherapy (TUP) which teaches therapists to think holistically and work interactively with clients. TUP resources are available on the www.unifiedpsychotherapy.net website. Dr. Harris is a Fellow in the Society for the Exploration of Psychotherapy Integration (SEPI) and has served as the Chair of SEPI’s Education and Training Committee. Dr. Harris is an avid outdoorsperson and enjoys hiking, cycling, skiing, and kayaking. He and his wife live in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
